OA Goes 1-1 at Twister Cup

Oldenburg Academy boys soccer hosted the annual Twister Cup on Saturday and went 1 and 1 on the day.

In the first game, OA rolled over Seton Catholic 8-1.

The Twisters got off to a fast start by forcing an own goal on the Cardinals in the first 40 seconds of the game.

At 36:38 in the first, Adam Weber put a shot from the 18 in the back for his first goal of the season.

Conner Holder scored the first of his game-leading four goals at 28:48 heading in a corner from Will Jones.

Holder then headed in a pass from Weber with 21:43 to go in the half.

The Twisters took the 4-nil lead into halftime.

In the second, Seton Catholic scored first at 37:25 on a breakaway by Ian Vourazos.

OA quickly responded at 36:17 with Weber assisting Holder for his first hat trick of the season.

It was all Twisters the rest of the way with Rylan Hill taking putting cross from Marcus Bonilla in the back of the net at 21:21.

Holder added another to his tally at 18:55, heading in a Damien Brelage pass.

Freshman Mason Leising scored his first goal as a Twister at 17:14 to round out the 8-1 win.

Shawe Memorial won the second match 2-1 in a shootout.

It was a tough, physical match against the Hilltoppers saw a total of 21 fouls on both sides.

The contest remained scoreless until 35:05 in the second half when Shawe’s Gus Grote broke away for the score.

OA evened things up at 19:27 when Holder headed in a pass from Hill.

The Twisters couldn’t find the back of the net again despite outshooting the Hilltoppers nine to five, ending regulation at 1-1.

The match was decided by shootout in which Shawe won 2-1.

OA will host Triton Central Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Graveyard.
