OA Freshman Swimmer Advances to State (Sectional Results)

Oldenburg, IN – The Oldenburg Twisters travelled to Columbus North High School on Saturday to participate in the star studded swim sectional, highlighted by several large schools.

The Columbus North Sectional is often referred to as one of the marquee sectionals in all of the state of Indiana. The Lady Twisters practice at the local YMCA, but impressed on a much larger stage on Saturday. First place sectional winners in each event qualify for the state finals, there are no regionals or semi-state in swimming. Any swimmer who equals or betters the state time standard in their respective event in the consolation finals or championship finals of the sectional qualifies for the state finals.

Oldenburg freshman star, Alejandra Schutte broke several records on her way to qualifying for the state meet. She became the first OA swimmer since 2016 to be on the podium in two events. She qualified in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Her 3rd place finish in that event is the highest of any Twister since 2012.

The ladies 200 Medley Relay also podium for OA since 2016 by placing 8th. Alejandra Schutte (backstroke), Avery Austin (breaststroke), Caroline Niese (butterfly) and Ella Maxwell (freestyle) had a season best time of 2.07.27. Two seniors also contributed to the team’s success, Ella Maxwell and Caroline Niese contributed to OA’s success in their respective events. Ella qualified for the consolation round in her 200M freestyle and 100M freestyle placing 13th and 10th. Claire placed 16th in the 100M butterfly. The 200M Freestyle relay of Alejandra, Avery, Caroline and Ella placed 10th.

Through all this success, OA was able to claim 11th place with 75 total points. Congratulations on a highly successful season ladies! WRBI is wishing lots of good luck to Alejandra in the State Swim Meet!
