North Vernon repair project underway

North Vernon, In. — Highway crews from North Vernon-based Dave O’Mara Contracting have begun work on a $823,000 repair and resurfacing project along 1.8 miles of State Roads 3 & 7, between Walnut & Buckeye Streets in downtown and the U.S. 50 bypass on the north side of North Vernon.

Crews will be patching the north-south roadway over the next several weeks.  Once repairs have been made, surface pavement will be milled and a new 1½-inch HMA asphalt overlay put in place.

This preventative maintenance project also calls for new ADA-compliant curb ramps at Main Street and installation of signal loops at Walnut, Poplar and Hurley Drive where a separate traffic signal modernization project is currently underway.

The contract calls for all work to be completed by mid-November.

The section of roadway has a traffic count of 25,320 vehicles per day.
