(Brown County, IN) — The North Decatur Chargers Cross Country team competed in sectional action at Eagle Park on Saturday, delivering strong performances across the board. Leading the boys’ team was a trio of standout runners: Jackson White set a personal record with a time of 18:54, closely followed by Eli Weisenbach at 18:55, and Harper Gunn, who also achieved a new career personal best, finishing at 19:02. Junior Sam Cathey posted a solid time of 21:24, while teammates Cletus Rennekamp (21:31), Jayden Lawrence (21:59), and Clayton Ruf (23:12) made impressive debuts in sectional competition.
Although the boys’ season concluded with an 11th place finish and a total of 309 points, the Chargers can reflect on a season of marked improvement. Notably, the entire squad will return next year. “This was a great group of young men to coach,” said Coach Kyle Nobbe. “I’m looking forward to seeing their development in the offseason.”
On the girls’ side, two Chargers earned their way to next week’s Regionals in Evansville. Dorothy Robbins clocked a time of 23:25, while Norah Amberger secured a career-best 23:26, ensuring both will compete as individuals for at least one more week. Junior Ava Lecher posted one of her best times of the season, finishing in 24:56, and Emerson Gunn (26:27), Brooklyn White (26:32), Olivia Reisman (27:13), and Jessie Biltz (27:46) all concluded their seasons with strong performances.
Robbins and Amberger will take the field again at Angel Mounds in Evansville on Saturday, where they’ll vie for a berth in the State Finals. The race is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. Central Time.
