North Decatur wins second-straight baseball Sectional Championship

The North Decatur Chargers was the last team standing once the dust settled at the 1A Jac-Cen-Del baseball sectional on Monday night.

In the first semi-final of the day, the Chargers routed the host Eagles 12-0. Brayden Hancock’s stellar outing on the mound played a major role in North Decatur’s win. The sophomore gave up just 1 hit in the shutout win.
South Decatur would win the other semi-final, defeating Waldron 5-1 to set-up Monday evening’s championship game.

In the championship, North would surge out to an early 4-0 lead before South would answer, scoring 3 in the second and 1 in the top of the third to tie the game at 4. However, the Chargers would have an answer of their own, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 4th innings to take an 8-4 lead they would hold onto to clinch their second straight sectional championship.

North Decatur will face Greenwood Christian Academy for a 1A Regional Championship this Saturday. The time and location for the game will be announced tomorrow.

In other sectional baseball action, Milan fell to Brownstown Central 1-0 in the semi-finals of the 2A Sectional at Austin and Franklin County lost on their home field to Connersville 7-4 in a 3A Sectional final.
