North Decatur varsity baseball stops Waldron’s late comeback attempt short to earn win

North Decatur varsity baseball scored all 8 of their runs over the course of 3 innings in their 8-6 win over Waldron on Thursday.

The Warriors got on the board in the first inning when Jacob Lindsey’s sac fly scored one run to give them the 1-0 lead.

North Decatur pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

The Chargers went on to score one run in the top of the fifth off of a Ty Litmer RBI single. Waldron answered with one of their own when Brayden Hancock induced Lindsey to hit into a fielder’s choice. At the end of the inning, the score was 5-2 in favor of North Decatur.

The Chargers would add 3 more runs in the fifth to make it an 8-2 game.
North Decatur would hang on to earn 8-6 victory despite allowing Waldron to score four runs in the sixth inning. Corbin Tantiss and Bryce Yarling each had RBIs in the big inning for the Warriors.

Hancock earned the win for the Chargers. The southpaw went five and a third innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one. Xander Jones threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Jones recorded the last five outs to earn the save for North Decatur.

Yarling took the loss for Waldron. Yarling lasted two innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out four.

Jacob Bennett started the game for Waldron. The hurler went three innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out six.
