North Decatur varsity baseball gives up 5 runs in third inning in loss to Rushville

Wednesday was a long day for North Decatur varsity baseball as they fell to Rushville 10-4.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 3rd, Rushville would take the lead for good with a five-run third inning to give them a 5-1 advantage.

The Chargers would answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wouldn’t be enough, as Rushville scored 5 runs over the last 4 innings to give the Lions a 10-4 victory.

Tyler Smith earned the victory on the mound for Rushville, surrendering three runs on two hits over two innings while striking out three. Jack Barnes threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Brayden Hancock took the loss for the Chargers. The lefty lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs while striking out seven.

Eli Trenkamp, James Evans, Xander Jones, and Tyler Dean each collected one hit to lead North Decatur.
