Reid Messer drove in five on three hits in North Decatur varsity baseball’s 18-4 win over Waldron on Tuesday.
The Chargers Varsity grabbed an early lead with 5 runs in the first inning. North Decatur scored on a double by Nolan Burkhart, a single by Ty Litmer, and a single by Kamdenn McKinney.
After scoring 2 runs in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd, North Decatur Chargers would add eight runs in the fourth inning. The Chargers offense in the inning was led by Brayden Hancock, Messer, Burkhart, Xander Jones, James Evans, and McKinney, who all drove in runs.
North Decatur ended the game with 20 hits. Evans, Burkhart, Hancock, Messer, Litmer, and McKinney each racked up multiple hits.
Jacob Bennett went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Waldron in hits.
Tyler Dean led North Decatur to victory on the pitcher’s mound. Dean went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out three.
Jacob Lindsey took the loss for Waldron. The pitcher lasted two innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out three and walking one.
