Batesville- The road trip continued on Saturday night for the North Decatur Lady Chargers as they traveled to Batesville to square off in the early season tilt.
Peters got the scoring early for Batesville putting in 9 first period points. The Lady Chargers treaded water early, connecting on 5/5 from the charity stripe. Kunz had 5 points and Madi Allen added 2.
North road a huge 18-0 2nd quarter run to take the lead into the break 27-16. Kunz had 8 points in the period, Bohman dropped 5, Haley knocked in a triple, while Rohls and Allen connected on a pair. Ultimately, the pressure from the Charger defense put Batesville on the edge.
The teams traded baskets in the 3rd, as Batesville cut the lead by 2 to 42-33 ND.
Foul shooting and untimely turnovers made the game closer than necessary down the stretch for the Red and Blue. A total of 60 combined free throw attempts were made on the night. And despite the recent challenges the Lady Chargers have had from the line, they made just enough to close out the game. Clare Kinker was 4/4 from the line late to ice the game, while Madi Allen and Ella Kunz were both productive in the second half.
The Lady Chargers put the game away late 64-57 to improve to 2-3 on the young season. They will face county foe South Decatur next Saturday night in the annual Civil War game. The Chargers look to retain the trophy for the 10th consecutive season.
South is 3-1 with victories over Morristown, Southwestern, and Milan.
