New, full-time firefighter sworn in by City of Batesville

Batesville, IN — A new, full-time firefighter was sworn in between the conclusion of Monday night’s Batesville Board of Works meeting and the City Council session.

22-year-old Spencer Broughton is a Cedar Grove native and a 2017 graduate of Franklin County High School.

He has part-time experience with Batesville Fire & Rescue, where he has served since 2018; Bright Fire & EMS since 2019; and Sunman Rescue 20 since 2017.

Broughton was sworn in by Mayor Mike Bettice, and his father pinned his badge on his uniform shirt.

In addition to his father, Broughton’s mother, sister and girlfriend attended the ceremony.
