ND to Play for National Championship

MIAMI — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish knocked off the Penn State Nittany Lions Thursday night 27-24 to advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The win came in the College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Capitol One Orange Bowl.

After trailing 10-0, Notre Dame scored 17 unanswered points to take their first lead of the night on a Jeremiyah Love two yard touchdown run.

Penn State stormed back to take the lead on a 7-yard touchdown run by Nicholas Singleton. He had three rushing touchdowns on the night.

On the next drive, Notre Dame got their longest pass play of the year when Riley Leonard hit Jaden Greathouse for a 54-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 24-24.

After Christian Gray intercepted Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, the Irish drove into field goal range. Mitch Jeter nailed a 41-yard field goal with less than 20 seconds left. Penn State couldn’t get down the field after that before time ran out.

With a record of 14-1, Notre Dame will play in the National Championship game on January 20 in Atlanta.

Penn State finishes the season with a record of 13-3.
