Mrs. Phyllis E. (Smith) Lewis, age 90, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on November 11, 1935, in Florence, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Marion Parker and Cleo J. (Coy) Smith. She was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and was a 1952 graduate of the Vevay High School. Phyllis was united in marriage on September 26, 1962 to Claudell Lewis “Bud” Lewis in Utica, Indiana. Phyllis and Bud shared nearly 51 years of marriage together until he passed away on March 24, 2014. Phyllis was employed at Bag Craft in Chicago, Illinois for seven years. She was later employed for Plastic Molding Factory in East Enterprise, Indiana, for 21 years, Vevay Shop Quik for two years, and as a nurses aide for Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for two years. Phyllis enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and gardening. Phyllis passed away at 6:59 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, William Joe McKee of Maysville, KY, James Shaw of Rising Sun, IN, Bobby Lewis of Lawrenceburg, IN, Claudell Lewis, II. of Vevay, IN, Dennis Lewis of Patriot, IN; her daughters, Deena Knight and her husband, Michael of Vevay, IN, and Sonja McKee of Maysville, KY; her step-son, Richard Lewis and his wife, Cara of Fisherville, KY; her step-daughters, Linda Rosenberger of Jeffersonville, IN, and Bertha Greenwell and her husband, Marcie of Louisville, KY; her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers, Harlan Smith and his wife, Lois of Rising Sun, IN, Charles Leroy Smith of Rising Sun, IN, James Smith and his wife, Janet of Patriot, IN, Donnie Smith and his wife, Vicky of Vevay, IN, and Marvin Gene Smith of East Enterprise, IN; her sister, Joanne McAllister of Aurora, IN; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marion Parker Smith; her mother, Cleo J. (Coy) Smith; her husband, Claudell “Bud” Lewis; her daughter, Tracy Lynne (Lewis) Vann; her son, Richard Wayne Shaw; her step-daughter, Claudia Elsenback; her step-son, Michael Lewis; her sisters, Linda Parks and Cathy Smith; her sister-in-law, Martha “Libby” Smith; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer “Jenny” (Hanson) Lewis.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026, with Rev. Mike Jones officiating, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Patriot, Indiana.
