Mrs. Jean (Ritch) Thomas

Mrs. Jean (Ritch) Thomas, age 91, of Rising Sun, Indiana, entered this life on April 4, 1929 in Carrollton, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late Claud and Dora Florence (Skirvin) Ritch. She was raised in Warsaw, Kentucky where she attended Gallatin County High School. Jean was united in marriage to Vernon Ellis Thomas on December 21, 1946 in Carroll County, Kentucky. This happy union was blessed with a son, Larry and a daughter, Doreen. Jean and Vernon shared nearly 46 years of marriage together until he passed away on July 27, 1992. Jean was employed for the Plastic Molding Factory in East Enterprise, Indiana and for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana for several years. She was a member of the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling, Indiana. Jean was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidering and making dolls and placemats. Jean loved flowers, especially roses, gardening and canning. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and keeping them all in line! Jean loved dancing and listening to music. Jean was the heart of the family and will be deeply missed. Jean passed away at 11:13 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at her son’s residence in Rising Sun, Indiana.

Jean leaves behind to cherish her memories, her son, Larry Gene Thomas, Sr. and his wife, Donna of Rising Sun, IN; her son-in-law, John Taylor of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Larry (Shona) Thomas, Jr., Debra (Todd) Johns, Dora (Scott( Henry, Aaron (Tiffany) Thomas, Paula (Larry) Bovard and Chuck (Tracy) Rogers, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Laci Daugherty, Zack Daugherty, Felicia Henry, Megan Henry, Colton Henry, Wyatt Henry, Tylor Thomas, Shallyn Thomas, Gunnar Thomas, Collin Bovard, Kelby Rogers, Brayden Rogers, Abigail Thomas, Hannah Thomas and Rebecca Thomas; her great-great-granddaughter, Rosie Henry; her step-grandchildren, Hunter Hines, Hailey Hines, Sara Oakes, Josh Johns, Jeremy Johns, Nickie Kersey and Bessie Boyd; her step-great-grandchildren, Aiden Johns, Bowen Oakes, Madilyn Oakes, Joey, Shy, Trey and Irene; her brother, Ralph Ritch of Tupelo, MS; her sister, Anna Lee of Bennington, IN and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Dora Florence (Skirvin) Ritch; her husband, Vernon Ellis Thomas; her daughter, Doreen (Thomas) Rogers-Taylor; her son-in-law, Charles Daniel “Butch” Rogers, Sr.; her sister, Beulah Moore; her brothers, Vernon, Allen, Willie “Bill” and John “J.C.” Ritch and a infant brother.

Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison, Indiana.
