Mr. Harold E. “Joe” Covington, age 61, of East Enterprise, Indiana, entered this life on January 14, 1962 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. He was the loving son of Donnie and Pansy (Scudder) Covington. Joe was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1980 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. In his early years of life, Joe enjoyed playing softball on the Bear Branch Softball League, as well as, coaching softball, boating and water skiing. Joe was united in marriage on November 20, 1992 to Barbara Jane “Barb” Whitham in Jellico, Tennessee. This happy union of nearly 22 years was blessed with a daughter, MacKenzie Jane and twin sons, Mason Joseph and Myles Jacob. Joe was employed for Butternut as a truck driver in Nashville, Tennessee and later for Wagner’s Trucking. Joe was a 23 year member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #181 of Henderson, Kentucky and worked as a heavy equipment operator. Joe was employed for McAlister’s Excavating Company for over 30 years. He was a member of the East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Joe enjoyed driving his ranger and riding 4-wheelers and dirt bikes with his kids. Joe loved spending time with his family and attending his kids sporting events. Joe suddenly passed away at 9:08 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Joe will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, MacKenzie Jane Covington and her fiancé, Matt Beck of Bargersville, IN; his twin sons, Mason Joseph Covington of East Enterprise, IN and Myles Jacob Covington and his companion, Audrey Griffin of Ft. Carson, CO; his father and mother, Donnie & Pansy Covington of East Enterprise, IN; his brothers, Brian Covington and his wife, Carol of East Enterprise, IN and Mark Covington and his wife, Rosie of Florence, IN; his faithful fur baby, Cash; his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as, his wife’s extended family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Jane “Barb” (Whitham) Covington, died June 14, 2014; his infant son and daughter; his infant brother, Don Michael Covington; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William Milburn and Mildred Marie “Mickey” (Craig) Whitham and his brothers-in-law, Donald E. and Dennis R. Whitham and James “Jimmy” Russell Whitham.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2023 by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
