Mrs. Edith Mae “Beadie” (Hatton) Gibbs

Mrs. Edith Mae “Beadie” (Hatton) Gibbs, age 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, entered this life on October 18, 1933. She was born to Leslie E. Hatton and Hazel Louise (Ferguson) Hatton Mathews. After the death of her father, Edith was adopted by Herschel and Helen Marie (Hatton) Lowe and was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where she helped on the family farm. Beadie graduated from Vevay High School and grew up in the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church. Beadie was united in marriage in September 1954 in Louisville, Kentucky to William Edward “Eddie” Gibbs. This union was blessed with two sons Monte and Robert. Beadie was a former employee for the Vevay Grocery Store and for the 5 & Dime Store in Vevay, Indiana. She was later employed for a cafe in Louisville, Kentucky. Beadie was a member of the Beechmont Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music, cooking, baking and reading. Beadie went to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:12 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2024, at her residence in Louisville, Kentucky.

Edith will be missed by her sons, Monte G. Gibbs and his wife, Tonya of Hardinsburg, KY and Robert L. Gibbs of Louisville, KY; her grandson, Troy Gibbs of Louisville, KY; her half-sisters, Bonnie Detraz and her husband, Edsel of Sheridan, IN, Phyllis Christman of Bennington, IN, Sharon Johnson and her husband, Dave of Madison, IN, Kathy Scott of Toccoa, GA and Linda Ricketts and her husband, Larry of Edinburgh, IN; her half-brothers, Raymond “Bimbo” Mathews and his wife, Bonnie of Madison, IN, Mickey Mathews and his wife, Bev of Patriot, IN and Jim Mathews of Vevay, IN and her several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her biological father, Leslie E. Hatton, died November 20, 1934; her biological mother, Hazel Louise (Ferguson) Hatton Mathews, died November 12, 2001; her adopted father, Herschel Lowe, died October 6, 2010; her adopted mother, Helen Marie (Hatton) Lowe, died September 27, 2002; her husband, William Edward “Eddie” Gibbs, died May 28, 2011; her daughter, Michelle Gibbs, died February 6, 1978; her half-brothers, Otis Henry Mathews, died April 12, 1953 and Nelson Wayne Mathews, died November 10, 2022 and her half-sister, Wanda Sullivan, died October 28, 1982.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2024, in the Rising Sun New Cemetery in Rising Sun, Indiana.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2024, in the Rising Sun New Cemetery in Rising Sun, Indiana.
