Mr. Vernon Eugene “Sonny” Peters

Mr. Vernon Eugene “Sonny” Peters, age 86, of East Enterprise, Indiana, entered this life on October 5, 1936 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the son of the late Bennie and Sallie (Wagner) Peters. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1955 graduate of the Patriot High School. Sonny was united in marriage on July 5, 1956 to Janice Lucille Ray. Sonny was employed as a sole leather for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, retiring after 43 years of service. He farmed most of his life until he sold the farm in 2008. Sonny enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, NASCAR and wrestling and mowing the yard. Sonny passed away at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Manderly Health Care Center in Osgood, Indiana.

Sonny will be deeply missed by his wife, Janice Lucille (Ray) Peters of East Enterprise, IN; his sister, Lauretta LaVelle of Rising Sun, IN; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruby Hysell of Madison, IN and Ronnie and Mary Ray of East Enterprise, IN and his nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Peters, died July 15, 1988; his mother, Sallie (Wagner) Peters, died May 1, 1988; his infant brother, Harland Peters, died in 1942; his paternal-grandparents, Amie Peters, died January 9, 1921 and Julia L. (Manser) Peters, died August 3, 1961; his maternal-grandparents, William Robert Wagner, died August 26, 1947 and Angeline (McCreary) Wagner, died October 9, 1917; his numerous aunts and uncles and his brothers-in-law, Walter Louis “Buster” LaVelle, died August 15, 2007 and Lyonal Morris Hysell, died March 16, 2016.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023, by Pastor Bill Madison, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
