
Mr. Carlysle Francis “Carlie” Armstrong, age 86, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on September 29, 1940 in Florence, Indiana. He was the loving son of Durward and Neithal Mina (Peak) Armstrong. He was raised in Florence, Indiana and was a 1959 graduate of Patriot High School. Carlie was inducted into the United States Army on September 4, 1963 in Louisville, Kentucky. He served during the Vietnam War and was transferred to the reserves on December 17, 1963 and was honorably discharged on September 3, 1969. Carlie was united in marriage on December 23, 1961 to Martha “Sue” Ellegood in Moorefield, Indiana. This happy union of nearly 65 years was blessed with two daughters, Shanna and Carla. Carlie farmed all of his life, raising horses, cattle, and hay. He also worked for Cummins in Columbus, Indiana, and for Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky for several years. Carlie enjoyed painting, photography, and hanging out in his shop every day. Carlie passed away at 9:50 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Carlie is survived by his wife, Martha “Sue” (Ellegood) Armstrong of Fairview, IN; his daughters, Shanna Armstrong of Indianapolis, IN, and Carla Armstrong of Vevay, IN; his granddaughters, Courtney Wesner and her partner, Jamie of Sun Prairie, WI, Carly Riley and her husband, Phillip of Argenta, IL, and Bailey Bain and her husband, Jared of Morrison, OK; his great-grandchildren, Reagan, Dakota, and Weatherly; his sisters, Arbanna Harris of Florence, IN, and Donita Dye of Florence, IN; his brother, Jack Armstrong and his wife, Joan of Patriot, IN; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Durward Armstrong, died May 25, 1987; his mother, Neithal Mina (Peak) Armstrong, died May 11, 1993; his brothers, Sterling Armstrong, died November 2, 1991, Robert Denton Armstrong, died August 11, 1993, George Wesley Armstrong, died April 20, 2001, Duane V. Armstrong, died June 27, 2002, Basil Verle Armstrong, died October 17, 2008, Halstead O. Armstrong, died December 30, 2013, and Lynn “Skinny” Armstrong, died December 19, 2023.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2026, by Pastor Bob Hicks, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison, Indiana.
