Mr. Arlen L. “Sonny” Cutter

Mr. Arlen L. “Sonny” Cutter, age 77, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on June 8, 1944 in Milan, Indiana. He was the son of the late, Clarence Robert and Aldean Irene (Cleeter) Cutter. He attended Kindergarten through the 6th grade in Switzerland County, Indiana. The family moved to Abingdon, Virginia where he attended William King School from 7th-9th grade. The family moved back to the Switzerland County community where he graduated in 1962 from Vevay High School. At the young age of 18, Arlen became a union welder. He was later employed for Contractors United Incorporated in Columbus, Indiana. The business moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where it became Milestone. Arlen was awarded the merit award for outstanding design in structural steel where he was the supervisor for the Columbus Gateway Arch Bridge in 1998. Arlen retired in 2010 after 48 years of service. He was very proud of the bridges he helped build throughout his life. After retirement, Sonny began helping his son build his home over the course of four years. Every year, Arlen faithfully attended the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky. He also enjoyed collecting antique toys, license plates and railroad lanterns. Sonny also drove his ’29 Chevy in the movie, A Girl Named Sooner that was released in 1975. He loved old tractors and cars and built a John Deere wagon, as well as, remodeled a horse drawn sleigh. Sonny loved his chickens and gardening and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of the Antique Machinery Club, Hupmobile Club and the National Rifle Association. He was a proud member of the Carpenters Union Local #1142 of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Arlen passed away at 9:10 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Arlen will be missed by his son, Timothy Cutter and his companion, Julie Pike of Bennington, IN; his granddaughters, Kayla, Mya and Kenli; his companion, Martha Ann Blodgett of Vevay, IN; his brothers, Dean Cutter and his wife, Kathy of Versailles, IN and Denzil Cutter and his wife, Peggy of Fairview, IN and his several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Robert Cutter, died October 30, 1981; his mother, Aldean Irene (Cleeter) Cutter, died March 10, 2004 and his sister, Lauragene (Cutter) Filsell, died July 15, 2016.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
