Friendship, IN — The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department had to make a water rescue early Saturday morning after a motorist drove their vehicle into high water on State Road 62.

Upon arrival at the scene around 3:49 am, the motorist was found trying to drive through high water from Laughery Creek that covered part of the road.

The water flooded his vehicle and he became stranded.

Crews were able to reach the man and remove him from the vehicle.

The unidentified man was not injured.

“This individual was extremely lucky this morning. We cannot emphasize enough, do not drive into flood waters,” the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department wrote in a statement. “The risk is not worth the few minutes you might save. This individual probably lost his vehicle from the flood waters and could have easily lost his life. It is not just a saying, ‘Turn around and don’t drown.’”
