More closures coming for Sears

Batesville, Ind. —  Sears Holdings says they will close 20 additional stores following a poor performing second quarter of 2017. Company officials cited closing stores, low sales and severance costs as the reason for the loss.

The company says 18 sears stores and two Kmart stores will close. Additionally, pharmacy operations will be closed in 92 Kmart stores and 50 Sears Auto Centers will be closed as well.

Since 2010 the retailer that changed the shopping paradigm more than 100 years ago has lost $10 billion.

The company also announced its Canadian spin-off, Sears Canada will file for bankruptcy protection. Reports indicate 59 of the company’s 200 stores in Canada will close. The closure will include the loss of 2,900 jobs.
