Moeller hands East Central Football its first loss

(Edited game report filed by Rob Moorhead.)

As heard on WRBIradio.com Friday, Moeller handed East Central its first football loss of the season, 39-22.

The Trojan defense started the game strong forcing two turnovers on the first two Crusader possessions.  This included a 64-yard pick-6 for Jack Rinear which put East Central on top 7-0  However, the Moeller defense was up to the challenge holding the Trojan offense to zero first downs during the first half of play.

Running back Alec Weeder got the Crusaders on the board with a 1-yard run and a 2-point conversion to move Moeller in front, 8-7, with 2:29 to play in the first quarter.  Jordan Marshall also had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first half while William Steele added an extra point and a 31-yard field goal to extend the Crusaders advantage to 18-7 at intermission.

East Central’s offense came alive to start the second half as Ryan Brotherton took an inside handoff from Trae Ohmer and scampered 46 yards for the score.  Sophie Browndyke’s extra point pulled the Trojans to within 18-14.

But that’s as close as the Trojans got as Moeller quarterback Noah Geselbracht hit Tennel Bryant for passing touchdowns of 25, 5 and 17 yards in the third quarter to give the Crusaders a commanding lead of 39-14.

Cole Burton scored the final touchdown for EC late in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run.  Burton then caught a 2-point conversion pass from Ohmer to set the final score 39-22.

With the victory, Moeller improves to 3-0 while the Trojans fall to 2-1.  East Central will travel to Franklin County next Friday as they begin EIAC play.  That game can be heard on WRBI Radio beginning with the 6:40 pm pregame.
