MMH Interim CEO provides community COVID-19 update via video

BATESVILLE, IN — Margaret Mary Health officials are urging the community to help slow the spread of COVID-19 over the holidays, as patient volumes continue to climb.

“In our emergency department, we are seeing higher volumes than we have ever seen,” said Interim CEO Liz Leising in a video on the hospital’s Facebook page. “We have very long wait times, patients are coming in needing to be treated. We’re even having to hold patients in the ER because we don’t have beds upstairs.

“On our Med/Surg and Special Care Floor, we have very, very sick patients and we are again seeing higher volumes of patients than we have ever seen,” Leising added. “We are surging beyond our normal capacity and all of our staff and all of our team members are incredibly strained.”

Leising said they’re seeing younger and sicker patients, and are experiencing capacity issues similar to the ones hospitals in Cincinnati and Indianapolis are going through.

The community update comes on the heels of Margaret Mary Health postponing inpatient elective surgeries until at least January 10 because of skyrocketing COVID patient volumes.
