BATESVILLE, Ind. — Margaret Mary Health recently announced that providers started using new Opiate and Other Controlled Substances guidelines to treat acute and chronic pain conditions with remedies other than narcotic pain medications.
These new guidelines started the beginning of January.
Margaret Mary says when Opiates and Controlled Substances are necessary for patients, the hospital’s emergency department, physician’s offices, and local minor care facilities will only provide these medications when it is safe and appropriate using new specific guidelines.
The new guidelines provide specific information on medication selection, dosage, duration, and when and how to reassess progress and discontinue the medication if needed.
