Mildred C. Brackman, age 92 of Batesville, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at her home. Born April 27, 1925 in Franklin County Indiana, she is the daughter of Clara (Nee: Enneking) and Leo Kleine. She married Harry Brackman May 4, 1946 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg and he preceded her in death November 15, 2001.
An accomplished seamstress, Mildred was self taught and could sew, quilt, needlepoint and cross stitch. She made her children’s clothing growing up and in later years made doll clothes, baby blankets, Christmas tree skirts and stockings for the grandchildren. She dearly loved her grandchildren and making things for them. An excellent cook and baker, her family will miss her pies, donuts and homemade noodles. Mildred also had a green thumb and enjoyed working in her flower beds and in the garden. The kids teased that all she had to do was look at something and it would grow. Other interests included tending to her hummingbirds and reading. She kept several hummingbird feeders around the yard and delighted in watching them. An avid reader, she was a regular visitor to the library until just recently. Her family described her as selfless and nurturing, always wanting to help and do for others.
Mildred is survived by her daughters Edna Thompson of Houston, Texas, Helen Gillman of Brookville; son Urban Brackman of Batesville; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren with another one on the way. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her son Martin (Slim) Brackman; sister Caroline Duerstock and brothers Elmer and Martin Kleine.
Visitation is Monday, October 30th, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Carl Langenderfer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice or St. Michael’s School.
