(Milan, IN) – A six-year-old boy who lost both of his parents in a crash this summer has been named an honorary coach at Milan High School.
The Milan School Board this week approved the appointment of Knight Walters as the honorary boys basketball coach for the 2026-27 season.
“I am super excited for him and very happy that he is going to be a part of that high school program,” Superintendent Pat Murphy said.
Knight’s parents, Jordan and Sierra Walters, died in a head on collision on State Road 350 in June.
He was injured in the crash but was able to get out of the vehicle and try to get help for his younger brother and parents.
Knight was joined at the meeting by Indians first-year head coach Joe Kirkhoff.
“Congratulations Knight and welcome to the team,” Milan Community Schools wrote in a statement.
The Indians open the ’26-27 season at South Decatur on December 11.
