Michael James “Mike” Vanderbur, 68, passed away Sunday January 12, 2025 at his residence. He was born July 21, 1956 in Greensburg to James and Sarah (Loyd) Vanderbur. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Greensburg High School in the class of 1975.
He was a lifelong resident of Greensburg. Mike held several jobs throughout his life as a mechanic, metal fabricator, eventually retiring from Koenig Equipment.
Mike was always the life of the party. He loved telling stories and he had plenty. Among them being a misbehaving teenager in his Chevelles, the fun in the 3rd turn infield at the 500, and the parties at the “Becker place”. Whether hosting cookouts, gathering with friends for race-day celebrations, or enjoying a day out on the river, his joyful presence brought laughter and a bit of mischief to every event.
He was well known around Greensburg for his various jobs, personality and being a frequent visitor at Links. In retirement he loved keeping up his yard and garden, working on his Monte Carlo and having a few cold ones with his brothers and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marilyn. He is survived by brothers Rick (Kathy), Kenny, David (Donna), all of Greensburg, Paul of Speedway, and Karl (Laura) of Zionsville. Also his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, Amy (Rob) Nelson, Ashley Brown, Kyle Vanderbur, Nikki (Joe) Kern, Joe (fiancée Megan) Vanderbur and Ellie Vanderbur.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
