DECATUR COUNTY, IN — Bill Meyerrose has announced his candidacy for Decatur County Sheriff on the Republican ticket.
Meyerrose is a former Greensburg Police Chief and is currently an investigator for the Decatur County Prosecutor’s Office.
His candidacy has the backing of Prosecutor and county GOP chairman Nate Harter.
Incumbent Sheriff David Durant was elected as a Democrat in 2018 but switched affiliation in September 2020 to the Republican Party.
Durant will run for re-election next year as an Independent after Harter informed him of a state law passed this year requiring two primary votes or the party chair’s approval.
Durant’s only vote in a GOP primary came last year.
Meyerrose is a lifelong Republican who has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement.
