Metamora VFD discontinuing annual firemen’s festival

Metamora, IN — The Metamora Volunteer Fire Department has decided to pull the plug on the annual firemen’s festival which was held around the 4th of July each year.

In a Facebook post, the department says, after much consideration, members determined it’s not feasible to continue operating the festival because of financial burdens that have been ongoing for years.

Officials say the money used to put on the festival will now go toward purchasing equipment so the department can better serve the community.

The festival was started more than 40 years ago and drew people from several states to Metamora.

The event was highlighted by a fireworks display that consistently drew rave reviews.
