Melvin William Keyer, Sr., “Buckeye Bill”

Melvin William Keyer, Sr., “Buckeye Bill”, 85, of East Enterprise, IN, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family on Friday, July 12th, 2024.

Bill was born in Cincinnati, OH on July 10, 1939, and attended Western Hills High School.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and proudly served his country. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion.

Bill worked for the United States Post Office and later as a carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local 126.

In March 1959, Bill married Ruth Marie (Kidd) Keyer and had 8 children. He is survived by three daughters, Teena Keyer, of Loveland, OH; Kim Keyer-Scott (Robert), of Bonita Springs, FL and Melissa Goodyear (Brian), of Loveland, OH; by two sons, Kelly Keyer (Tonya), of Scottsburg, IN and Shaun Keyer (partner Dani) of Chicago, IL; by daughter-in-law, Bambi Keyer, of Milan, IN; by grandchildren: Tim, Randall, Drema, Bradley, Amanda, Chris, Brandon, Ashtan, Katelyn, Crystalle, Michael, Derick, Jacob, Mason and Shelby and by numerous great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Durham, of Fairfield, OH.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Ruby Wissel (nee Birdcell) and Clemens Victor Keyer, step-father Bill Wissel, his wife Ruth, by his sons, William “Randy” Keyer, Robert “Bob” Keyer, and Melvin “Billy” Keyer, Jr.; by his grandson Tyler Reinhard and granddaughter Kelsey Keyer, and brothers Marvin Keyer and Russel Wissel.

Bill enjoyed golfing, hunting, and working on his farm. He also enjoyed his weekly talks with his dear friend and neighbor Norm Supe, as well as friends at the “liars table” in the Marathon gas station in East Enterprise.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 16th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 16th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Vevay American Legion.
