Melting snow, rain, runoff and falling temps lead icy high water

Batesville, In. — Rain, snowmelt and runoff are being blamed for flooding throughout Ripley and Franklin Counties.

Some locations experiencing flooding are Batesville, Brookville, Versailles, Milan, Osgood, Oldenburg, Lake Santee, Blooming Grove, Sunman, Metamora, Laurel, Holton, Napoleon, Cedar Grove, Millhousen, Mount Carmel, Mounds State Recreation Area, Huntersville, Hamburg and Penntown.

Officials remind motorists that most flood deaths occur in vehicles- Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Additionally, forecasters say rapidly falling temperatures will create ideal conditions for ice to form on driving and walking surfaces. Motorists should use extra care on bridges, elevated roadways and exit ramps.

Forecasters expect a high-temperature today of 27-degrees. Tonight temperatures drop to 7-degrees.
