Matt McClain knocks in 3 runs for Reds in series finale win over Cleveland

Matt McClain showed up and showed out in the Reds 7-2 series finale win against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night, improving their record to 63-59 on the season.

The infielder went 3-5 with a home run, a double, and 3 RBI. He was not the only Reds player with multiple RBI. Stuart Fairchild finished the game 2-4 with a 2-run home run in the 4th inning off of Guardians pitcher Noah Syndegaard.

The first run of the game was knocked in by McClain on his double in the 1st inning to make it 1-0. After a double by Jose Ramirez drove in a run to tie the game at 1 in the 3rd, the Reds answered with 4 unanswered runs in the 4th, which were knocked in on Fairchild and McClain’s two-run home runs, giving the Reds a 5-1 advantage

Gabriel Arias made it a 3 run game on a solo homer in the top of the fifth. However, Cincinnati answered once again with two more runs. The first came in the 5th after Joey Votto scored on an error by catcher Bo Naylor. The other run of the game was scored in the 6th when TJ Friedl scored on a Votto single to left, making it a 7-2 game.

Andrew Abbott got the win on the mound, improving his record to 8-3 on the season. He struck out 5 while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings pitched.

The Reds have the day off today before starting a 3-game weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays. First pitch is at 6:40 pm.
