Mary Frances Stephens, age 79 of Batesville IN, died September 3, 2023 at St. Andrew’s Health Center. She worked at Batesville Casket Company as a customer service representative before retiring. Prior to Batesville Casket Company, she was employed as an Office Manager for A Beeper Co. in Indianapolis. She started her career and worked for a number of years as a medical assistant for Lester Bibler, MD, a family practitioner in Indianapolis. Mary graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis in 1963.
Mary was an enthusiastic organic gardener and for many years sold her produce at the Batesville Farmers Market. Customers especially liked the tender lettuce she grew with the assistance of her sister-in-law, Joan Stephens.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph D. and Joan M. Stephens of Batesville and by her brother and sister-in-law, John R. and Robin Stephens of Memphis, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Sherman Stephens and Frances Lucille (Robb) Stephens of Indianapolis and by her sister, Margaret Joyce Atkins of Floyds Knobs, Indiana and her brother, Frederick Sherman Stephens of Indianapolis and her infant brother, Albert Allen Stephens.
Mary was much loved by her many nephews and nieces who also survive.
Mary’s wishes were to be cremated and to be interred at Calvary Cemetery mausoleum in Indianapolis near her parents and her brother. At the time of her interment (not yet determined), a memorial mass will be celebrated at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, presided over by her nephew, Reverend Daniel Atkins, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
