Mary E. Hazelwood, age 74 of Oldenburg, died Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born August 13, 1941 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Marcella (Nee: Galle) and Marion Merchen. She was a homemaker and also worked 15 years at Hill-Rom.
Throughout her life, Mary was always helping others. She would take friends to appointments who needed transportation, bring food to those under the weather or anonymously leave money at the grocery store for those who needed a helping hand. Mary also loved being with her family, especially the grandkids. Some of her hobbies included collecting coins, flower gardening, working jigsaw puzzles, reading, which was usually something history related as well as watching Fox News and the Young and the Restless. A good cook and baker, everything she made was delicious and her family will especially miss her oatmeal cake. Mary also like to travel and a recent trip to the Cayman Islands became one of her favorites.
She is survived by daughters Charlotte Lussier of Hermosa, South Dakota, Margie Richardson of Kenesaw, Nebraska, Christine Hazelwood of Oldenburg; sons Charles Hazelwood of Batesville, Keith Hazelwood of Oldenburg and eleven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation is Monday, June 20th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21st, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Food Pantry or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
