Martha Burress Riley, 82, of Versailles, passed away at 1:10 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2024 at her home. She was born at Florence in Switzerland County on October 3, 1941, the daughter of Melvin and Edna Scudder Webster. She was married to Don Burress who preceded her in death on March 1, 1973. Survivors include her daughters Jennifer (Gayle) Asche of Versailles and Allison (John) Higgins of Madison; one son Donnie (Tammy) Burress of Versailles; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jerry Webster of Olean along with several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Tyler Asche, and her brothers Merrell and Damon Webster. She is also survived by her close friends, the “Coffee Club” at the Rolling Pin. Martha was a former employee of Hil-Rom in Batesville as well as US Shoe in Osgood. She enjoyed reading, but her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martha was a member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 3 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Visitation will also be on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Greendale Cemetery or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
