Marie E. Oliger, 97, Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Crownpointe Senior Living Community in Greensburg.
Born February 28, 1919 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of Edward G. and Adelaide J. (Enxel) Welage.
She was a 1937 graduate of Greensburg High School and 1940 graduate of St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. She worked as a registered nurse in Indianapolis, Martinsville, and then the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg for several years.
She served in the Navy Nurse Corps during WW II from 1944-46. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She was married to Richard E. Oliger on May 21, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1998.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan (Michael) Powers, one son, Peter (Lora) Oliger; two brothers, Roger W. Welage, Vincent P. Welage; two sisters, Mildred A. Moeller, Marjorie J. Mahan; six grandchildren, Melinda Powers, Marcia Powers, Cody Patrick Oliger, Casy Lee Oliger, Brady Eric Oliger, Pete J. Oliger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; four brothers, Robert Welage, Richard Welage, Edward Welage, Leonard Welage.
Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow the rosary until 1:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery with a military graveside honor.
