(Westport, IN) – A Westport man is facing Attempted Murder charges following an incident on Independence Day.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brewer is also charged with felony Intimidation, Theft of a Firearm, and Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury after he allegedly tried to kill one of his former roommates during the early morning hours of July 4.
Court documents indicate Brewer showed up at a home looking for the former roommate, and pulled a gun on the man.
Brewer allegedly pulled the trigger but the weapon malfunctioned. Court records say a fight ensued between the two men, and that Brewer hit the victim in the face with the pistol.
After the fight, Brewer fled the scene and was later tracked down in Jennings County.
Brewer was arrested following police interviews and an investigation.
He appeared in Decatur Circuit Court on Monday for an initial hearing, and was appointed counsel.
A trial date hasn’t been scheduled.
