(Guilford, IN) – A man believed to be intoxicated was arrested following a weekend standoff in Guilford.
Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Heritage Trail on Saturday for a reported domestic altercation.
The suspect, Michael Malloni, could not be found initially, but he was located a short time later, laying prone behind a landscape bed.
Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens says he pointed what appeared to be the barrel of a gun at deputies.
Investigators say Malloni refused to comply with orders to show his hands and step away from the handgun, and taunted deputies.
Upon the arrival of additional officers, a flashbang was used and a Indiana State Police trooper deployed his Taser to incapacitate Malloni, and what turned out to be an unloaded handgun was recovered.
Once in custody, Malloni allegedly became belligerent with officers, who believed he was intoxicated.
He was treated at St. Elizabeth Dearborn before being taken to jail.
Malloni is charged wtih Domestic Battery, Pointing an Unloaded Firearm, and Resisting Law Enforcement (all Class A misdemeanors), with additional charges under review.
He is being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
His pretrial hearing is set for August 2 in Dearborn Superior Court I before Judge Jonathan Cleary.
A bench trial is scheduled for September 3.
