Man arrested, charged in Greensburg residential burglary

(Greensburg, IN) – A Shelbyville man is behind bars following his arrest in connection with a residential burglary in Greensburg.

Police officers arrived at the home on the 300 block of West Washington Street and contacted the homeowner, who told police the suspect was still inside.

Officers began clearing the residence when they noticed the suspect had gained access to the attic.

Because the suspect was pushing down on the attic access while officers were trying to get in, the Greensburg Fire Department ladder truck was called to the scene so they could get in through an attic window. The Greensburg Police Department Tactical Response Team also responded.

Officers were able to get in through the attic window and found the suspect hiding in some insulation.

The Greensburg Police Department says the suspect, 41-year-old Matthew Beagle, was taken into custody without further incident.

Beagle was charged with Burglary, Intimidation, and Resisting Law Enforcement.

In addition to the Greensburg Fire Department, Greensburg Police received assistance from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and Decatur County Communications.
