Macy Scudder 5 RBI big in North Decatur varsity softball’s 13-2 win over Jac-Cen-Del

Macy Scudder would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Tuesday, driving in five on three hits to lead North Decatur varsity softball past Jac-Cen-Del 13-2 on Tuesday.

Scudder drove in runs on a groundout in the third, a single in the fourth, and in the sixth, and a double in the seventh.

The Eagles got things moving in the first inning, as Maria Meyer drove in one when she singled.

In the top of the third inning, North Decatur tied things up at one when Scudder grounded out, scoring one run.

North Decatur pulled away for good with five runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Bailey Groth induced Kennedy Stier to hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored, Kacie Ogden then  singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.  Scudder rounded out scoring in the inning with a singled that score two runs.

In the sixth inning, North Decatur put up six more runs.  Batters contributing to the big inning included Scudder, Sarah Swain, Libby Crawford, and Tyce Robbins, all sending runners across the plate in the inning.

Swain led the Chargers to victory in the circle. She allowed nine hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Groth took the loss for Jac-Cen-Del. The hurler allowed nine hits and 11 runs over six innings, striking out six.

North Decatur  racked up 13 hits on the day. Ogden, Scudder, Crawford, and Swain all had multiple hits. Scudder and Ogden each managed three hits to lead the team

Jac-Cen-Del collected nine hits. Kaylin Hinners, Abbie Schmidt, and Meyer each had multiple hits for Jac-Cen-Del. Hinners led Jac-Cen-Del with three hits in four at-bats.
