Lois Carol McClaran, formerly of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at the Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg, Indiana. She was 86 years old. Lois was born on March 31, 1936 in Pender, Nebraska to parents William M. Jensen and Pauline L. Jensen (Boltz). She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Janelle K. Weatherford (Harold David), and two grandsons, Logan Hayes and Sean Michael.
After graduating from high school in 1953, Lois attended Nebraska State Teachers’ College (now Wayne State College) in Wayne Nebraska, where she earned a Bachelor Arts in Education with minors in English and Sociology. While at the teachers’ college, Lois met Hayes Benjamin McClaran, also a student. They were married in Pender, Nebraska in June of 1956. They celebrated 62 years of marriage until Hayes passed away in 2018.
In 1957, Lois and Hayes moved to California to pursue careers in teaching. Lois taught high school English and business for one year in Central California. Later, she made a career change and graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Lois completed over 15 years of service in nursing home facilities in Fresno, California. Additionally, she managed the bookkeeping for her husband’s business in the restoration of mechanical music instruments. Lois and Hayes moved to Batesville, Indiana in 1995 to enjoy their retirement years together.
Lois enjoyed sewing and reading historical fiction; and, she had a great love of wild and domestic animals. She never missed an opportunity to care for an abandoned cat or other animal in need. Her kindness and sharp mind will be missed by her family and friends.
Lois did not wish to have a funeral or visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
