Locals Successful at EC XC Invite

Local cross country teams and individual runners did quite well at Saturday’s East Central Invite in St. Leon.

North Decatur won both the boys and girls Division 2 races.

On the girls side, Oldenburg Academy junior Josie Wenning crossed the finish line first (21:44). Teammate Alaina Jensen (23:51) posted a fourth place individual finish while Anessa Uhlarik had a top 20 finish (29:26).

The Charger girls were led by Rileigh Hash’s third place finish (23:51).

North Decatur had a perfect team score of 15 while Jac-Cen-Del came in second with 45.

The Charger boys won that race with 46 points; South Ripley was third with 54, and JCD checked in with 145.

Individually, ND senior Harper Gunn won the boys race with a time of 17:45. OA’s Carson Hartwell (17:56) and Sam Dennis (18:13) came in third and fourth, respectively.

Batesville claimed both the boys and girls Division 1 races.

It was the Bulldog girls just getting past runner-up Harrison (Ohio) 38-39, with the host Trojans coming in third as a team with 76.

BHS junior Jayla Bedel won the individual championship with a time of 20:23.  Teammate Francesca Meyers was second (21:01), and EC senior Lily Gambrel finished fifth (21:16).

Batesville won the boys race with 47, followed by runner-up East Central with 61.

The top area individual finish came from Trojan senior Abram Hiltz, who was second with a time of 17:49.

Bulldog freshman Cael Luhman came in fifth (18:19).
