Lawrenceburg, In. — – As the school year in most districts across the State of Indiana is in full
swing, students are building up their leadership training in preparation for other events throughout
the school year. In response, members of the South Dearborn High School Chapter of Family, Career
and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) attended the Indiana FCCLA Fall Leadership Rally, held
at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 27, 2018.

The Indiana Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Fall Rally is one of the
statewide events that brings student leaders and advisers together to encourage students from across
the state to become leaders in their families, careers and communities. Throughout the day long
event, students took part in leadership, membership and community service training, skill and
knowledge competitive events as well as heard from guest speakers to get students energized about
becoming leaders in their communities. Students in Grades 6-8 also took part in the iBuckleUp and
weBuckleUp Program which focuses on the importance of seat belt and traffic safety in their
communities.

Dr. Jeff Bond, Principal at South Dearborn High School says “I am very happy to see our students
excelling at leadership training and FCCLA here at South Dearborn. Our students need positive peer
influences like our students in FCCLA, and their commitment to making our school a better place is
one of the things that sets South Dearborn apart from other schools”.

“After not having FCCLA at South Dearborn for the last few years, being offered the position of
FCCLA Adviser here, has really energized me to helping these students have the same experiences I
did when I was in FCCLA in high school. This program teaches students how to be leaders as well as
crucial skills that will be valuable in any stage of our students’ lives”, says Bryan Schuerman, FCCLA
Adviser and Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at South Dearborn High School.
Students at South Dearborn also hosted the Indiana FCCLA District 12 Fall Meeting on October 23rd,
which had students from the following schools in attendance:
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America
• South Dearborn High School
• East Central High School
• Sunman-Dearborn Middle School
• Rising Sun-Ohio County Middle School
• Rising Sun-Ohio County High School
• Milan High School

• South Decatur High School

Next, students at South Dearborn High School FCCLA are planning this year’s annual Veterans Day
Luncheon which will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 1:00 PM at South Dearborn High School.
