(Milan, IN) – Local organizations have teamed up in a display of community spirit to make sure Milan Elementary School (MES) students start the new school year fully equipped with supplies.
It’s the second year in a row in which MES students will have most of their school supplies provided to them.
The initiative was spearheaded by Principal Travis Rohrig and has been instrumental in alleviating the financial burden on families while fostering an supportive educational environment.
“I cannot express the gratitude that I have for our community. This has been a goal of mine since I came to MES. We know that the economy has been tough on everybody, and I am so thankful that our community organizations stepped up once again to support our students, teachers, and families. This is a true demonstration of giving back and acts of service from our community groups. There is no better investment than investing in a child,” Rohrig said.
Seven organizations contributed funds this year so that notebooks, pencils, crayons, folders, erasers, glue sticks, markers, scissors and the many supplies used daily by students could be provided.
Through a partnership with Aurora WalMart, supplies are strategically purchased for classrooms.
Also donating were the Sons of American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Milan VFW, American Legion, Milan Elementary PTO, and Moving MES Forward.
