Local farms receive Hoosier Homestead Awards

BATESVILLE, Ind. — State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg), State Representative Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville), State Representative Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison), and State Senator Jeff Raatz (R-Centerville) honored locally owned family farms for being in operation for more than 100 years.

Senator Leising and Representative Ziemke honored Ripley County’s Schneider farm and Rush County’s Cole Farms, while Senator Raatz and Representative Lyness honored Franklin County’s Beneker Farm.

The Schneider farm has been in operation since 1898, Cole Farms in operation since 1882 and 1895, and the Beneker Farm since 1887.

All of these farms received centennial awards for being in operation and owned by the same family for at least 100 years.

The Jesse Donald Meinders farm in Ripley County has also been awarded a centennial award for being in business since 1878, and the Evans and Denison farms in Decatur County have been awarded the sesquicentennial award, with the Evans farm being in operation since 1834 and the Denison farm open since 1866.
