Lloyd Edward Christiansen

Lloyd Edward Christiansen, 83, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 at the Chateau of Batesville in Batesville, Indiana.  He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 22, 1938 to William and LaVerna (Brace) Christiansen.

Lloyd graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1956 and married Bertha Mae “Bert” (Kaldenberg) Christiansen on March 18, 1960.  They were married 61 years.

He was employed in many professions during his lifetime, including a baker in the Air Force National Guard and civilian life, life insurance agent with Metropolitan Life, maintenance mechanic with Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company/Pirelli, custodian with Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company Credit Union and a farmer having their own strawberry farm. His favorite work was during his time as an owner/operator of his Woodmizer sawmill and later traveling the country selling bubble wands and Rada knives.

Lloyd had several passions including watching the stock market, golfing, bowling, playing cards (pinochle, cribbage and bridge), running, bicycling and triathlons into his 50’s. Lloyd was a Regional Master in Bridge and enjoyed playing with numerous partners. He and Bert traveled to Texas and Florida during the winters. In 2020, they moved closer to be with Jill and her family after spending a few more years in Altoona and Des Moines, Iowa.

Lloyd is survived by daughter Jill Lussow (Bob), granddaughter Katelyn Gilday (Derek), grandson Kyle Lussow and many nieces and nephews. His wife Bertha Mae, preceded him in death (in October 2021), his sister Mary Lou Lutton and parents, William and LaVerna Christiansen.

A private service will be held for family members and he will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery in Greendale, Indiana.
