Lila Shade, 87, Versailles

Lila A. Shade, 87, of Versailles passed away at 12:45pm, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Lake Iola Assisted Living Center in Scottsburg. She was born near Versailles on November 30, 1930 the daughter of Howard and Waunetta Waters Lostutter. She was married to Douglas Halcomb in September of 1948 and he lost his life in the Korean War on March 9, 1953. She was married to Thomas Shade on October 22, 1955 and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2007. Survivors include one daughter Jacqueline (Lee) Benham of Scottsburg; one son Steven (Donna) Shade of Trinity, North Carolina; grandchildren Elizabeth Benham of Scottsburg, Adam Shade of Trinity, North Carolina, and William Shade of New Haven, Connecticut; one brother Don (Linda) Lostutter of Hanover; one sister Ava Smith of Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Shade was a 1948 graduate of Versailles High School. She was a homemaker and also a long time employee of the federal government working at the Jefferson Proving Ground and also at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. Lila was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church and a former member of Tri-Kappa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 24th at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery or the Tanglewood Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
