Lena Patrick Delap, 98, of Milan passed away Tuesday in her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Magoffin county Kentucky to Rilda and O.M. Patrick on April 23, 1918, and was married on April 23, 1936 to Alvin Delap who preceded her in death in April of 1987. Lena was also preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters, and parents. She is survived by one son Robert Alvin Delap of Moores Hill; two daughters Judy Bridewell of Warsaw, Kentucky, and Linda (Andy) Barenscheer of Milan; nine grandchildren– LeAnn Wafford, Tara (Chuck) Hagy, Tina (Mark) Mazuk, Malinda (James) Jones, Susannah (Stephen) Scott, Timothy (Brittany) Barenscheer, Robert (Stacey) Delap, Jonathan Delap, David Brown, Kelly Bridewell, Tracey Bridewell. She is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren– Patrick, Mindi, Joel, and Jeremiah Wafford; Abigail, Emma, Ellie, and Josie Hagy; Randal, Gracey, and Jacob Mazuk; Molly, Zachary, and Andrew Jones; Silas Scott, and Callen Barenscheer. She was a loving and caring mother who was dedicated to her family. She loved her picturesque country home spending endless time enjoying early mornings picking blackberries, tending to her garden, piecing quilts for her family, and preparing delicious homemade goods. Some might think this was a simple life, but to her it was everything. Blessed with a listening and sympathetic ear, and love for her family made it inviting to sit on the swing and listen to her calm and reassuring ways. It was common to receive comfort by a soft touch, tap of her hand, a soft “hello hon” or “bye sugar.” Her life was seasoned with family, and our lives were enriched by the love she has shown us. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will follow the services at Washington Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Washington Baptist Cemetery in Elrod, Indiana.
