Indianapolis, IN — State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) chaired the 2022 Rural Caucus meeting in the Normandy Barn at the Indiana State Fairgrounds this week.
The caucus is comprised of state legislators who meet with stakeholders in sectors impacting Indiana’s rural communities, including health care, education, and agriculture economics.
Topics on education covered learning loss and teacher shortages.
Health care topics covered maternal and infant health, substance abuse, and mental health.
“Attending the Rural Caucus is rewarding because the robust discussion provides great insight on issues where our local communities may need more help,” Leising said. “As Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, I look forward to continuing to pursue policies that can help our rural communities prosper.”
Speakers included Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box, Indiana State Health Commission Co-chair Luke Kenley, Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner, Purdue University Agriculture Economics Department Head Dr. Jason Lusk, and the Indiana Barn Foundation.
