Lawrenceburg beats Batesville in 2A top 20 boys soccer showdown

As heard on WRBI radio Thursday in a boys soccer showdown, 2A #17 Lawrenceburg defeated 2A #20 Batesville 5-0.  The visiting Tigers held just a 1-0 lead at halftime.  Jason Cosby and Pablo Cunningham both scored twice for LHS with Asher Gentry rounding out the scoring.  Gentry had a pair of assists while Cosby, Kolby Sharpshair and Ryan Moorman had one each.  Tiger keeper Carson Scott made four saves and combined with his defense for the shutout.

Batesville coach Kyle Hunteman said the match began with the expected physicality of the two teams once the sky cleared up from the storms passing through Batesville.

The Tigers started with strong possession as Batesville worked to close down the midfield. Lawrenceburg kept the pressure throughout the half until finally, with 13:07 on the clock, a ball was sent from the outside wing close in for a shot to goal.  The Bulldogs struggled to answer with an equalizer. The first half ended with Batesville down one goal.

As the second half went on, adjustments in the Bulldog lineup had to be made to accommodate player injuries. The Tigers executed four goals off corner kicks, one-on-ones to goal, and defensive mistakes.

The JV match ended in a 1-1 tie.  The Lawrenceburg goal was scored by Karson Mollaun.  The Batesville goal was not reported.

We thank Lawrenceburg’s DeWayen Uhlman and Judy Reese along with coach Hunteman for the information.
