Lawrenceburg, In. — River Cities Bike Share, the community bike share program that first launched last year, returns for its second season beginning this week, with short-term bike rentals now available throughout Southeast Indiana.
The innovative initiative – the first bike share program of its kind in the area – features 30 “ready-to-ride” bicycles located throughout the cities of Lawrenceburg and Aurora, as well as along Dearborn Trails, a popular trail system that runs through the region. Equipped with a locking mechanism, the bikes are housed at several docking sites throughout the community, and can be rented and reserved using a free downloadable app.
Each of the Shimano seven-speed bicycles are available on a ride-and-return basis. The cost to ride is $3 for the first hour and $2 for each additional hour. Users can use the bikes to travel between the region’s many shops, attractions and restaurants, or head for Dearborn Trails. The multi-use paved pathway follows the river in many places, offering on-and-off trailhead access at several points between Lawrenceburg, Aurora and Greendale.
